Coma Cinema - “Tour all Winter” from Blue Suicide

The prettiest damn song I heard in all of 2011.

BJ Barham (American Aquarium) - “Saint Mary’s”

drown in a river, crash in a plane, you will turn into water, you will turn into flame. nothing i want, no one i wanna be - everyone that i love is in hell here with me.

My drummer and bassist are in a really cool band called Those Lavender Whales.  Who just put out their first full length LP which you can buy here.

This video was filmed in Columbia, SC where we live and has yours truly in it, as well as everyone in Coma Cinema and almost all my friends.  The entire album is beautiful, honest, and straight from the heart of one of the kindest/ most talented people I am blessed to know.  I can think of no better way to start the new year.

Serfs up.

4. Coma Cinema - Blue Suicide
I get the feeling that Coma Cinema mastermind Matt Cothran would not be a lot of fun to have at a party, unless it was a wake. Sure, he’s a clever guy, as the quality of the songwriting on Blue Suicide attests, but he’s also a bit of a downer. His songs like “Hell” and “Wrecked” tend to be as depressing as they are catchy, which is to say that they are quite depressing. But, of course, his recordings do also carry a great wealth of emotional nakedness and honesty, which don’t exactly lend themselves to blue skies and butterflies. So, Matt’s always welcome at any party I have. Sure, we may wind up sad and disheartened, but at least it will be an enjoyable sort of depression.

He’s actually just about the best/most fun person to have at a party. Record reviewers are hilars.

It’s like chewing bubble gum for the first time and it makes you forget you have a skinned-up knee while your mom rubs your head and says life is OK but with an adult’s perception of how fucked-up life is.
